REVIEW Ú The uiet Americans: Four CIA Spies at the Dawn of the Cold War - a Tragedy in Three Acts Scott Anderson ä 1 REVIEW FREE DOWNLOAD Ý LEARNTOPARK.CO.ZA ä Scott Anderson Mmon purpose of defending freedom but the ravages of the Cold War led them to different fates Two would uit the CIA in despair stricken by the moral compromises they had to make; one became the archetype of the duplicitous and destructive American spy; and one would be so heartbroken he would take his own lifeThe uiet American is the story of these four men It is also the story of how the United States at the very pinnacle of its power managed to permanently damage its moral standing a tragic outcome with conseuences that echo around the world today?. I can t say enough good things about this book to possibly convey the pleasure that reading it has given meVery interesting historical perspective through the lens of four men I didn t really know much about and enlightening all the for itAnderson s not on a crusade here he s telling an important story from a different point of view and it s enthralling I had a hard time putting this book down An appreciation for the Red and Lavender Scares the machinations of Allen and John Foster Dulles a renewed stoking for a dislike that I have long had for J Edgar Hoover all of this and so much was an outcome of reading this bookEntertaining very well written a total pleasure to read and absorb this book will get me looking into things that have niggled at the back of my head for a while and now I ll have renewed reason to chase themIf you want to better understand where this country came from how it s attained the reputation it has in the world that s not the positive love story too many of us think it is and I have news for those who think otherwise no they re not envious of us how the Red and Lavender scares warped this country and its government and how a man like Donald Trump came to be you have to infer the latter from reading this but in my mind the trail is there this is a must read tome I was sorry to have to finish it

REVIEW Ú The uiet Americans: Four CIA Spies at the Dawn of the Cold War - a Tragedy in Three Acts Scott Anderson ä 1 REVIEW FREE DOWNLOAD Ý LEARNTOPARK.CO.ZA ä Scott Anderson A gripping account of four American spies at the dawn of the Cold War and the CIA's covert battles against communism from the best selling author of Lawrence in Arabia Enthrallingcaptivating reading especially in the hands of a storyteller as skilled as Andersonthe climate of fear and intolerance that it describes in Washington also feels uncomfortably timelyKevin Peraino The New York Times Book ReviewThe uiet Americans chronicles the exploits of the CIA's four original spies Michael Burke a charming former football star fallen on hard times Frank Wi. By selecting a handful of key players Anderson provides a fascinating view of the evolution of US spy craft in WWII and afterwards The personal accounts have the ring of truth with all the naive initial inspiration and subseuent sobering and ultimately depressing reality on the ground got those close enough to realize how many lives were sacrificed for unknown benefits Like all wars however necessary the reality up close is nothing like the rhetoricHighly recommended for anyone who wants to move beyond comfortable platitudes
