TLDR Average first half atrocious second halfThe base story of Strawberry Picker is intriguing enough Jette s and Merle s best friend Caro has a new boyfriend who is extremely reclusive They don t know his name or have ever met him Then suddenly Caro is dead and the elusive boyfriend is the prime suspect But how to find someone who was so close and yet left no traceThat s the good part Everything goes downhill from there This book is plagued by two major flaws1 The cover text of the book already reveals major spoilers from 23 of the book for some reason so the reader knows that Jette will also fall in love with this guy And it s boring as hell We know who the murderer is since the author decided to write several chapters from his perspective There s nothing to conclude only the ever growing uestion of Why 2 The absurdly daft main characters I m talking about the deceased Caro and her best friend Jette here Caro falls in love with a guy that obviously doesn t trust her enough to even give her his name Still she believes he s the one doesn t tell her best friends about him and even gives him a second key to her flat the same flat she shares with her two female best friends that don t even know this guy exists That s not even dumb any that s criminalJette picks up right where Caro left She s supposed to be a likable detective girl yet all I remember is her infantile whining about how much in love she is There is exactly ONE SINGLE eye witness that could identify the ghost like boyfriend of Caro a waitress that gives a proper description both physically and how he behaved of the killer About one day later Jette meets a man that is the spitting image of this description and he even seems to follow her around and act in the same way Caro s boyfriend did Naturally Jette being a smart young independent woman puts two and two together right No She s plain dumb and ignores all clues and her own vows to find the killer Instead she tries to be a good wife to this stranger who is 10 years older than her and acts like a real creep She s suspicious of every single person she encounters even random women even though all the victims have been raped Even the bloody police officer who s just trying to solve the case is treated aggressively But who get s the benefit of the doubt The obvious killer That s just dumb writing Without the frustratingly stupid decisions of these two girls the book wouldn t even last for 100 pagesI don t understand why the eyewitness report was in the book at all It didn t factor into the solving of the case one bit Also even though the killer raped all his victims and had a relationship with one of them for several weeks there are absolutely no physical traces anywhere No semen no DNA nothing Sure he left some clothes lying around but there can t be any DNA on that right RightDuring the last third of this book I wanted to scream at the protagonists so badly So no don t read this if you have any alternative It s just not a good book
