review Margarita está linda la mar Free download Ø PDF, eBook or Kindle ePUB ã Sergio Ramírez Sergio Ramírez ã 6 review History and fiction are poetically entangled to retall modern Nicaraguan history In 1907 Ruben Dario t. Margarita the sea is beautiful And the longer you gaze at it you won t see how silly the humans are on the land Such as Nicaragua We are in the land of the dictator Anastasio Somoza in 1956 Propped up by the Americans the dictator with his wife visits the city of Leon the city where the poet Ruben Dar o was buried fifty years earlier Under the guise of a big fiesta an undercurrent of unrest is coming to a boil Some want Somoza gone NowAs the plot thickens the story of the last days of their famous poet is retold through the characters linked to the plot Poetry is everywhere Even the title of the book is a poetic inscription that Dar o wrote on a fan to this young girl To add to the flavour and typical to Nicaraguans almost all the characters have nicknames La Luz Terrenal El Le n de Nemea El malo El bueno Salvadorita Rosa ni a and La Caimana just to name a few Apparently this adds spice to the remarkable story telling abilities Or perhaps it hides the the true names of this mystery novel Crime story Revolution Cultural reflections Maybe allYou are in good hands with Sergio Ram rez This book won the Premio Alfaguara de novela 1998 tied with Caracol Beach by Eliseo Alberto I read the twentieth anniversary copyThis is a truly wonderful read The dual stories paints a vivid if not sombre story of Nicaragua in the early twentieth century Dar o returns home from his life abroad No one reads poetry because most of the population is illiterate but they adore a good story and he has a great story Sadly Dar o was drowning himself in alcohol but it still makes a great story Let s just say he doesn t come off nicely Somoza has a checkered past but the people love a strong man If you can get in the action you love a strong man even So let s just say not all are happy with him and maybe his time has come Ramirez ties everything together Speculative andor the truth collide into a thorough look at his country s past Half way through the book el intermezzo tropical fills us in on Somoza The epilogue reveals even about the outcome Now Daniel Ortega and the Sandinistas are repeating that same old adage plus a change plus a meme chose Power is so hard to give upThe truth bites Stories are even better Not only do Nicaraguans love a good story they like to tell a good story as well Bravo se or Ram rez
