La sombra del águila review Å eBook or Kindle ePUB La sombra del águila narra una historia basada en un hecho real durante la campaña de Rusia de 1812 en un combate adverso para las tropas napoleónicas. From the Falklands to Sarajevo and from Lebanon to Nicaragua Spanish journalist and war correspondent Arturo P rez Reverte had spent the better part of two decades witnessing first hand the multiple and awful faces of human conflict when he started his career as a professional writer Reading his historical novels however one gets the strong impression he never abandoned completely his old profession only he seems to be using a time machine now The Spanish common serviceman of all eras and all branches of the military is a freuent protagonist of these stories We read gritty painstakingly detailed and realistic accounts and descriptions of the life and sufferings of heroic XVIIth Century pikemen fearsome corsairs taking on the Ottoman trade in the Aegean sailors and marines fighting Nelson s mighty fleet to the last man at Trafalgar and in this title the incredible story of accidental heroes who almost single handedly postponed the ultimate disaster of Napoleon s Russian campaign for a few weeks I can think of only two minor flaws First the book is too short I d have loved to read a full length novel with this subject and second it perpetuates the false myth about Napoleon s short stature although o be fair in the early 90s when this was written the myth was far prevalent than today even among scholars Keep em coming Arturo I could keep read this type of literature until the end of time
