I was looking for a fairly hard SF take on AI and Posthumanism Turns out this wasn t it It does have a plot which races along airport thriller style The turning points in the plot are much predictable than the always surprised and let s not forget superhuman characters seem to find them The author is apparently working on a TV adaption and the books are clearly written with a screenplay in mindThe tech isn t anything close to hard SF and a lot is glossed over or handwaved away with a couple of references to some computing or physics concepts That s done in the good old Let me explain fashion we came to know and generally avoid Added to this the Evil Geniuses are so cartoonish as to have reminded me of Doctor Evil They even cackle maniacally as they explicate their Evil Plan The characters are fairly basically drawn and their motivations almost juvenile particularly if there s any romantic interest involvedThe romance scenes themselves wouldn t seem amiss in a Mills Boon novel The marriages for example seem like what a hormonal fourteen year old boy would imagine a marriage to be like rather than what it is likeThe dialogue though is the most awkward problem Perhaps it s that I m reading the omnibus of four fairly short books but several phrases are used so repeatedly that they seem like literary ticsSo not a great read but the ways it s done does not at all preclude it actually making it to TV where it might get the Sunday night Doctor Who slot if The Doctor is out of galaxy and it s not competing with Merlin Les relations internationales depuis 1945 you think about AI Master of Science Fiction If Géopolitique de l'Australie you love Asimov's Foundation Renoncer à la terreur you'll love Simpson's Post HumanReviewerThere's no better time than the present to read Post Human This action.
